| Items we can install to increase your classic car radio enjoyment |
External inputs for MP3, iPod, CD, DVD or Computer Audio We can add the capability to listen to most any sound source through your great-sounding Delco radio, Chevy Radio, Ford Radio or any other car audio unit with built-in amplifiers. This also applies to units with built-in 8 track or cassette players. In most cases, this will require that you either drill holes in your dash for the external input jacks, or settle for a high quality cable extending from your dash unit with the jacks mounted on the end as an alternative. The external inputs can be set up to automatically switch over any time an external source is plugged in (such as a pocket MP3 player), or we can add a separate switch if you would rather keep the external unit plugged in as a semi-permanent arrangement, such as a CD player hidden in the glove compartment, or even a permanently mounted underdash unit. Many folks nowadays have thousands of music files stored in their iPods or on their laptop computers. For long trips lasting several hours or days, having all your favorite music can go a long way towards making the trip seem shorter and more pleasant. Your car audio system can be made just as flexible and elaborate as a full-blown home system. Please ask about options and prices - we can pretty much do anything you want! |
External outputs for connection to equalizers and power boosters Since car radios, especially older classic car radios, did not offer very much in the way of output power - typically only a few watts - we can install output jacks to increase the power output to any level you desire, limited only by what you care to purchase in a high power amplifier. It is assumed that you also intend to install separate speakers for your high power amp, as your existing speakers will not handle the increased sound intensity. Even if extreme volume levels are not your priority, the fact is: The more reserve power you have in your classic car, the better it will sound at normal listening levels. Bass will be cleaner and punchier with more presence, vocals will have a "silky" effect, and drums and cymbals will not distort on louder passages. If you go the extra mile and install the power booster in the trunk, you can control the whole works from your classic car radio. Delco and Philco-Ford radios especially have a nice, warm sound which quickly loses its quality when you have to crank it up to its limit to overcome road and engine noise. But when you connect it to a high power amplifier with more robust speakers, you can enjoy that beautiful sound at a much higher volume level - with minimal alteration to your radio. Can you imagine what can be accomplished when you have external inputs AND outputs? |
